Dominique Josef

My name is Dominique Josef and I am an artist.

I make art not necessarily because I want to, but because I must.

An idea, a vision comes and I feel compelled to give it form.

I want to say it is a lot of fun but sometimes - it isn't. Using materials that are unfamiliar, or using familiar ones in new ways can be quite challenging, frustrating even.

And, learning over and over to stay out of my head so that I am creating from my heart, is also challenging at times.

Something often happens though, especially when I am working with clay, where it seems as though what I am doing isn't working at all, and will not work - where the piece seems just a total failure. But, almost always as I persist, something wonderful happens and it does work; the piece takes its shape and form, and lives. And then, right where there was a lump of clay, or some paper, paint, glue, or whatever, there is something so much more, something new, something that never was before and never would have been had I not made it.
